Bobby’s Kitten to shuttle to Twin Hills Stud, Australia

Breeders’ Cup hero was one of the best turf sprinters of his generation Bobby’s Kitten, a brilliant two year old and winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint is to shuttle to Twin Hills Stud in New South Wales from his owner Kirsten Rausing’s Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, U. K. He will be the first son of Kitten’s Joy, the perennial Champion American Turf Sire, to stand at stud in Australia.

“Bobby’s Kitten is an excellent prospect” said Olly Tait, the owner of Twin Hills Stud. “He has all the attributes you look for in a stallion. He was a top two year old, a Grade 1 winning sprinter at three, has an outstanding pedigree and is a magnificent looking horse, with strength, scope and quality”.

Bobby’s Kitten won six times, all on turf, amassing US $1,424,417 in prize money. As a two year old, Bobby’s Kitten broke his maiden at Saratoga before a facile victory in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont, cruising to a 6 1/2 length win. He rounded out his juvenile season with a placing in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

The highlight of his career came as a three year old, with a breathtaking victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita. He showed a brilliant turn of foot coming from last to first to defeat America and Europe’s elite turf sprinters. In second was race favourite No Nay Never and in third was Undrafted, who went on to beat Brazen Beau in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

Bobby’s Kitten’s sire, Kitten’s Joy, has been Champion Turf Sire in America five times. A prolific source of high class horses, Kitten’s Joy is himself by El Prado, the sire of Medaglia d’Oro and Artie Schiller. Through these two stallions, El Prado is emerging as a potent influence in Australia, providing an excellent outcross for Danehill line mares with the Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and the brilliant Astern being examples of the El Prado / Danehill cross.
The dam of Bobby’s Kitten, Celestial Woods, has to date produced 3 Stakes winners by Kitten’s Joy. She comes from the outstanding family of Champions such as Paradise Creek, Theatrical and David Junior.

Kirsten Rausing, the owner of Lanwades Stud and Bobby’s Kitten said “We are delighted to instigate this co-operation with Twin Hills and hope that Bobby’s Kitten, with his top-class performance, pedigree and looks will prove a great asset to the Australian breeding industry”. Olly Tait concluded, “Bobby’s Kitten comes to us from Lanwades, one of Britain’s most respected studs. Twin Hills has been the home to some terrific stallions such as Snippets and Rubiton and
Bobby’s Kitten has all the credentials to follow in their footsteps. He is a beautiful horse, has a lovely pedigree and showed an explosive turn of foot”.

Bobby’s Kitten will stand at a fee of $16,500 inc GST.
